| As the saying goes, things only get better with time...and not only when it comes to wine!
After
finding out some unexpected news at the end of last week that was a bit
of a shock (though some would say otherwise...), I was pretty bummed
and feeling kind of low this past weekend ~ though a visit to the Cape
to see some friends did brighten the spirits a bit. Plowing
through the beginning of the week was a bit of a struggle. With various
things weighing on my mind, in combination with a bad head cold, what
could you expect...though when yesterday came, it was totally worth it.
There’s
a good chance that my career situation could be changing in the next
couple of months. To make a long story short, a coworker of mine is applying
for one of my old boss’s position. In which case, if he gets it, both
the director of my department and the executive director of my division
have high hopes that I’ll be moved into his position as a research
analyst! This is fabulous, because not only will I be taking a step in
a direction that I’ve wanted for the past 2-3 years, but I also have
the encouragement of my superiors at work for this move. Only to make
things better, I received an email from my old boss, who is currently
working at another higher ed. institution in Boston, saying that
they’ll be opening up a new research analyst position there, and she’s
been "singing my praises" as she puts it and is hoping that I’ll
consider it. Two potential job offers on the same day?! Seriously?
I’d
like to stay with the institution that I’m with since I love the people
in my dept. and I’m finally getting familiar with names, faces, and
personalities in my 108-employee division. Plus, there seems to be room
for growth, and the encouragement to do so. However, the other
institution would be paying $5K more than what I’m making now...but I
think right now my best bet is to just ride the wave and see where
things go...I definitely don’t want to jinx it.
| It's been drizzling on and off all week here in the Boston area, which I haven't minded too much to be honest. On my morning walk to the T today, I was overwhelmed with the smell of damp wood and earth and the bright flashes of autumn leaves that scattered the ground. I love fall!

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past week or so, you know that the Red Sox are in the running to win the World Series this year, playing against the Colorado Rockies. As you can imagine, fans here in Boston are out in full force. On my way to work today I saw the cutest little old man. He had to have been at least 80 something years old and was shuffling along on the sidewalk. He was all sharply dressed in a grey suit and tie...topped off with a Red Sox baseball cap, little wisps of snow-white hair peaking out. Can't get much better than that!

I've been on a baking binge the past couple of days. There is just something so therapeutic about blending butter and sugar, cracking eggs and adding flour, mixing, stirring...my second batch of cookies are cooling on the rack and I've just finished mixing a third bowl of batter, chocolate crinkle cookies. My kitchen is pleasantly warm from the oven, I'm covered in flour and cocoa powder, music softly playing in the background... I couldn't be happier.

My new tattoo!! | | |
| Called this afternoon and I have my appointment scheduled for this Sunday to get my tattoo! Yay! It's not the same place that I had originally wanted to go to, but another friend recommended this place. Her son got his tattoo there, plus has sat in numerous times to watch them work on various pieces and said there's nothing to worry about. So I'm all set. I'm sure my nerves will kick in once I get there, but I should be all inked up within a couple of minutes. I think I can handle pain for that long. As soon as I can, I'll post pics! | | |
| So the plan is to call this weekend sometime and set up my appointment to get my first tattoo! I'll be getting it sometime on Oct. 8th at Ink Bottle Blues out in Provincetown, MA...I'm off that day from work, in observance of Columbus Day (which is odd since I haven't had that off since...what...elementary school?!). Very excited. I've decided to get it on my right inner wrist and it'll be about the size of a quarter. Yay! As soon as it's healed up a bit, I'll be sure to get a pic posted of how it turned out. | | |
